Natural Toiletries & Cosmetics

The development of our natural toiletries and cosmetic ranges is as a result of customer requests. We have selected each product for its use of natural ingredients, performance, not tested on animals or containing animal materials, and also they don't contain hazardous man-made chemicals. Pure products, beautifully presented will make wonderful and welcome gifts for any earth-conscious person.

Hazardous man-made chemicals are in use all around us in all kinds of products. Research has shown that certain types of these chemicals build up to high levels in our bodies and in those of wildlife. However, many of these chemicals are poorly regulated and there is inadequate data on their safety and so little is known about the potentially long-term effects on our health and the environment.

Cosmetics and toiletries often contain artificial musks (often labelled “parfum”) which are used to impart fragrance, and chemicals called phthalates are used to make such scents linger after use. Amongst the many questions surrounding the long-term effects of such chemicals, there are concerns that certain phthalates may interfere with our natural hormone systems and some synthetic musks are suspected of being carcinogenic. Parabens, also found in many toiletries such as under-arm deodorants, has been found to accumulate in breast tumour tissue and Triclosan, an antibacterial agent with a myriad of applications in the home has been shown to build up in human breast milk and has even been found in lake fish.

We exclude all these chemicals from the products we sell, allowing you to select more natural and organic alternatives that work in harmony with your body.

WWF is campaigning in Europe for the proper regulation of hazardous chemicals in everyday use to protect people, wildlife and our environment. More than 70,000 signatures of concerned people were collected by WWF & the Women’s Institute for a petition presented to the European Parliament in March 2004. Buying and using products such as the ones on this web site will help support our vital work and reduce your risk of exposure to chemicals that could contaminate you and the environment.
