This amazing vegetable ivory necklace is truly inspired from the Amazonian rainforest. The colours reflect the tropical colour palette; birds, plants and other natural hues that make this beautiful and exclusive necklace. Drop 24cm.

Tagua or Vegetable Ivory as it is know is both sustainable and unique. The seed is obtained from a palm tree called Hyphaene Phytelephas found in the Amazonian rain forest. It is then dried out and sliced or carved into beads to create unique shapes before being coloured using natural plant extracts. It is an excellent alternative to elephant ivory given that its colour and hardness are extremely similar to ivory. Its use stimulates the economies in South America and provides an alternative to cutting down rain forest for farming, and prevents elephants from being killed for their tusks.

Founded by Lenny Trines and Juan Munoz, the company known as LeJu is the inspiration of designer, Lenny Trines, who became inspired by nature’s elements to design jewellery whilst travelling through South America. We are delighted to bring you a range of jewellery from this source.
