Our elephant necklace is skilfully carved from sustainable, environmentally friendly Tagua nuts from the Phytelephas palm also known as the ‘elephant plant’ which grows in the South American rainforests. Often known as vegetable ivory, tagua is an environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to animal ivory. A nut is selected that is as close to the desired finished shape as possible, which is then formed using a variety of sanding processes and polished to achieve a smooth surface.
This ethical jewellery is handmade in Cerro Grande, Ecuador, where Tagua carving supports 90 families, who have formed a co-operative providing much needed income for the local community. Your elephant necklace is carved by Carlos.
On a delicate silver ball chain, this necklace will make a fantastic gift and contribute towards
stopping the loss of these amazing animals. See the rest of our fabulous elephant collection.
