This E-Gift could buy 20 native tree seedlings to grow in nurseries for our forest restoration projects in Tanzania.
With this gift, you’ll be supporting the restoration of critical forest habitat across Tanzania.
Tanzania’s forests provide vital habitat for thousands of species of plants, birds and mammals, many of which are endangered, such as elephants and some African violets and sunbirds. These landscapes are also home to millions of people who have a deep spiritual connection to the land and rely on the ecosystem services it provides, such as clean water, better soil quality, and flood control. Despite their importance for both people and nature, these forests have been significantly degraded, and the landscape deforested, most commonly for unplanned agricultural expansion.
We’re working with Indigenous Peoples and local communities to restore the forests in some of the most important biodiversity hotspots in Tanzania, such as the Usambara Mountains and the Ruvuma transboundary landscape. These forests will help protect vital water sources, and provide greater access to sustainable sources of food, fuelwood, and livelihood opportunities, whilst simultaneously boosting biodiversity of native species, restoring critical corridors for wildlife, and increasing the ecosystem’s resilience to climate change, to maximise the positive power of forests for people, nature, and our climate.
